With a population exceeding 400,000 and many modern areas, Doha is both the capital and biggest city in Qatar. Home to a number of prominent universities, national museum and an important economic centre, the city of Doha has gained much of its wealth by exporting oil.
Qata's only airport, the Doha International Airport (DOH) is close to the city and is often extremely busy. Nearby and to the west, the New Doha International Airport is currently under construction and is due to replace the existing airport in 2009.

Dating back to 1973, the University of Qata is located on the northern side of the city and features almost 9,000 students. Further universities can be found in the lively Education City area of Doha and include the Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Texas A&M and Virginia Commonwealth universities.
On the northern side of Doha, Lusail City is a new development and features golf courses, marinas, numerous towering buildings and an entertainment district. Other notable areas around central Doha include Al Kheesa, Abu Nakhla, Al Rayyan, Al Wakra, Mesai'eed and Umm Slal Mohammed.
